From DePix to USDT: how a self-custody swap works
1 min read
Once DePix is sitting in your own wallet, a common next question is: how do you actually exchange it for something like USDT or Bitcoin? The process is simpler than it might sound, but it's worth understanding before you try it.
It happens in your own wallet
Because DePix is a self-custody asset, exchanging it isn't something a third party does on your behalf — it's something you do yourself, using a Liquid Network-compatible wallet that supports swaps between assets. The wallet handles the technical side; you simply choose what you're holding and what you'd like instead.
The general flow
Most swap-capable wallets follow a similar pattern: you select the asset you're holding (DePix) and the asset you want (say, USDT), the wallet shows you the current exchange rate, and you confirm the trade. Behind the scenes, this usually happens through a liquidity mechanism built into the wallet or a connected service — but from your side, it looks like a simple two-step confirmation.
Rates move, so timing matters a little
Because exchange rates between assets shift constantly, the rate you see at the moment you confirm is the one that applies — there's no guarantee it'll be the same five minutes later. This isn't unique to DePix or Liquid Network wallets; it's just how any live market works, crypto or otherwise.
Why this matters
Understanding that a swap happens inside your own wallet — not through a company "processing" a request on your behalf — reinforces the same theme that runs through everything about self-custody: you're not waiting on anyone else's internal systems. The trade executes because you hold the keys and you chose to make it happen.
